BOD Meeting/Happy Hour at Greasewood Flat – Saturday, February 4, 2012
Greasewood is one of our most favorite places! We love to get the fire pits roaring, stack our empty bottles on the rustic picnic tables and enjoy the live music. Somehow, they always end up playing Buffett when we’re there. How do they know? The BOD Meeting will start at 3 PM, Happy Hour starts whenever you get there but officially at 5 PM. It is good to get there early as the place gets crowded. Don’t forget to wear your badge! We’ll be doing a 50/50 raffle for St. Mary’s Food Bank so bring some cash for that. Oh, and cash for Greasewood. They don’t take plastic though they do have an ATM on site.
Directions to Greasewood Flat: From any where in the Valley take the 101 to Exit #36 Pima Rd./Princess Dr. Go north on Pima Rd. until you reach Happy Valley Rd. Turn right on Happy Valley Rd. 2 miles to the stop sign at Alma School Parkway. Turn left on Alma School Parkway. 1.5 miles Greasewood is on your right hand side. Follow the dirt road down to the bunkhouse and, guess what, you found it! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Sam Rainwater - CD Release/Fundraiser for Packages From Home – Saturday, February 11, 2012
Our very own Rocket Man, Sam Rainwater, is having a CD release party at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar & Grill at Mesa Riverview. I’ve heard his new disc, Dressing For Life, and it sounds fantastic! The party will run from 4:30 to 7:30 and feature other performers as well.
The donation is $10 at the door and the recipient of funds raised is Packages From Home. If you haven’t heard of them, they send hundreds of stuffed USPS boxes to soldiers stationed in active duty theaters. Those packages are a welcome reminder of home. For those that don’t know, Sam donates all proceeds from his CD and swag sales to charity and his business partners match the amount. Packages From Home has been the biggest recipient through Sam and the AZPHC and they’re a fantastic cause. Please come out and support a wonderful human being and join us for some great fun. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mac McAnally and Jake Shimabukuro - Saturday, February 18, 2012
McAnally, right hand man to Jimmy Buffett, my favorite Muppet and 4 time CMA Musician of the Year, and Shimabukuro, Ukulele wunderkind, are coming to the Valley of the Sun. The show starts at 8 PM at Mesa Arts Center. This show is sold out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~AZ Bed Race 2012 – Saturday, February 25, 2012
Saturday, Feb. 25th, the Arizona Parrot Heads will be participating in the AZ Bed Race 2012. It is sponsored by Bridging AZ, founded in 2004. They are the first and only Furniture Bank in Arizona, a non-profit organization that provides families in need with the furniture and household items necessary to create a safe, comfortable and healthy home environment. The Bed Race is a community event and fundraiser at Tempe Marketplace, 2000 E. Rio Salado Parkway in Tempe, right off the 202.
Team check in is 10AM, racing starts at 11AM. Here’s the scoop: We’ll need 4 pushers plus one person who will ride on (and must remain on) the bed. Each team has 15 minutes to decorate the bed. (It must be quick so that the next team can use the bed. Whatever we do for decorating has to come off, and be able to be placed back on for the elimination runs.) There are six or more beds so as two beds are in starting gates, others are being prepped to run. 1 member is positioned at each bed post and one rides on the bed in the middle. We run the bed to the end of street, EVERYONE must let go of bed, circle the bed like a Chinese fire drill and race back up the street to the start / finish line. Racing beds will be supplied - all we need are some creative Parrot Head decorations for the bed, our flashiest/blingy-est PH duds, and some fast runners! Sounds like this could be a blast! We need decorators, racers and a cheering section. Something for everyone to do! If you’d like to participate OR just attend and cheer on the racers, please email the Bed Race Chairperson, Tracy Kenison at patriotgirl@parrotheads.org. There will be live entertainment & a block party at the Tempe Marketplace stage after the races. COME OUT AND SUPPORT YOUR TEAM IN THIS PHUN EVENT! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Mardi Gras Party – Saturday, February 25, 2012
Yep, it’s time for the annual coronation of the King and Queen of Mardi Gras! Barb and John Young are opening their home for us again this year. There will be King Cake, games and prizes and a guaranteed good time. Of course, there will be a Shoe Box Float contest (more details will follow on that but you can google it in the meantime). Get out those beads and come dressed in Green, Gold and Purple, the colors of Mardi Gras! Well, at least come dressed. BYOB and a side dish to share. The party starts at 5 PM. RSVP to Barb at screamindago@parrotheads.org.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~BOD Meeting/Happy Hour/Club Meeting at Margaritaville – Saturday, March 3, 2012
The BOD will meet at 3 PM, the Club Meeting will start at 5 PM and we’ll be spending happy hours throughout that time and the evening. Please join us as we present updates on the club activities through Q1 and tell you about what’s coming up. It’s also a nice chance to support our very own Margaritaville who has given us a lot of support in return.

The AZPHC is proud to bring the extremely talented Mr. Sykes to you via the intimate setting of a house concert. It’s the perfect way to appreciate his talent and personality. His songs have sold over 25 million copies. I bet you’ve heard more than a few including The Coast of Marseilles recorded by that Buffett guy.
For those who have never been to a house concert, you’re in for a treat. It’s truly a “listening” experience where you will learn a lot about the musicians, their influences and get some great stories. This is way better than trying to listen to someone in a bar with lots of people talking. The audience at these shows is silent and attentive. The doors will open at 1 PM and the show will run from 2 PM to 5 PM at the Bauman Party Palace (Tammy and Michael’s home). A $20 donation is requested (all proceeds go to the entertainer). BYOB, a camp chair and a snack to share if you like. RSVP to Tammy at baumanpartypalace@yahoo.com if you want to attend. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~St. Patrick’s Day Party – Saturday, March 17, 2012
Finally, St. Patty’s Day falls on a Saturday. We couldn’t let that opportunity go by without having a party! Tammy “Queen” and Michael “Goat” Bauman have invited us to the Bauman Party Palace for an evening of good fun. More details will follow but put this on your calendar now - the fun will start at 6 PM. It will be a great time! You can RSVP to Tammy now at baumanpartypalace@yahoo.com if you like.
Please plan on bringing donations for St. Mary’s Food Bank. Cash or food items are both great! We’ll add in the 50/50 proceeds from the Q1 Happy Hours into the total donation. I’m sure you’ve heard how short all the food banks are running so let’s make their day with a really big donation! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Spring Training at Hohokam Park – Sunday, March 18, 2012
This is great family event because what kids don’t love baseball? We’ll meet in the parking lot on the NE corner of McKellips and Center, leaving there at 11:00 to caravan down Center to Hohokam’s north parking lot to tailgate. Game time is 1:05. Remember that this is Cubs v White Sox, so buy your tickets early because this game will sell out!
Email pmasiulewicz@gmail.com with questions. Everyone’s on their own to buy tickets. Tickets are already on sale. I suggest buying them at the park to avoid the ridiculous online fees and buying them soon. We’re going for the $9 Premium Lawn seats. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Click on the club logo below to check out our Facebook page!
